Group therapy allows patients to connect in a meaningful and long-term way with other individuals who understand and experience similar struggles. Sessions are facilitated by licensed counseling personnel who are trained to support groups of individuals facing the same condition or addiction, without sacrificing quality of therapy. Group therapy is an excellent option for patients and loved ones who have limited financial means because the cost per session can be split between several patients. Patients will have the opportunity to build relationships while working to better understand themselves all at one time.
One-on-one counseling services are also available to patients at Lionheart. This traditional method of addiction and psychological care creates a focused and personalized support space that offers an added level of privacy for each participating patient. Individualized therapy is ideal for patients who have a dual diagnosis, and ensures that your loved one will have the support of a professional who is laser-focused on their unique recovery process. While sometimes initially intimidating, this one-on-one support can help patients critically examine the factors contributing to their struggle, and can provide support in finding lasting and personalized solutions.
Here at Lionheart, we believe that recovery requires support for the whole person, not just talk therapy and 12 step programming. That is why we provide innovative recovery opportunities for our patients, including yoga, therapy animals, fine arts, and acupuncture. Our unique, holistic focus allows patients to explore a variety of alternative healing options that have brought comfort and support to people around the world. We look forward to supporting patient healing in mind, body, and spirit.
12-Step programs have been a tried and true method for recovery for almost a century, and for good reason. Participants have the opportunity to reflect on their previous choices and work to forgive themselves and others while connecting with a higher power for continued support. 12-Step processes are linear, which means that individuals can continually have a goal in mind, helping them to keep their eyes on the horizon as they work towards recovery. The ubiquity of 12-step programs can also guarantee a long-term, free, support system for addicts when they return to their community.
Non 12-Step Recovery
While programs like AA have helped to foster an abundance of meaningful success for many people in recovery, it’s not a method that works for everyone. Lionheart also provides recovery meeting options that are secular, evolutionary based on emerging scientific research, and empower participants to find internal motivation for sobriety.
While we take recovery very seriously, we also believe that it’s important for patients to enjoy their path to sobriety and establish new healthy habits. We provide a variety of opportunities for individuals to participate in group sports, art and music, and other hobbies that can continue to be important to our participants as they live a sober life outside of our community.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a method of treatment that focuses on addressing stress, trauma, and conditions like PTSD. Developed in the 1980s, this relatively contemporary method of therapy utilizes eye movements and other attention focusing activities on developing skills to heal from previous traumatic experiences, and manage current stress associated with those experiences. Patients utilizing this method often see results very quickly, often after only one session.
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)
REBT offers patients the opportunity to truly get to the “why” of their addiction. This therapeutic practice helps individuals to identify and subsequently recognize their triggers for use and allows patients to understand the irrational thinking that supports their ongoing addiction. REBT is a skill-building technique that can also help patients to understand other destructive behaviors in their lives and how to combat them, and can easily be combined with other types of psychological therapy.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a very popular and effective form of treatment for addiction. It is a method of psychological treatment that allows patients to identify previous trauma and evaluate how that may impact their current addiction. With the help of a licensed professional, individuals will have the opportunity to find alternative methods of dealing with previous stress and harms in their lives. CBT is very well studied, and there are virtually no negative outcomes associated with this type of therapy.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT, while typically used for adolescents, can be used for any age group to address addiction and mood disorders. DBT is very similar to CBT because of the methods used, and it’s ability to support patients with dual diagnoses. DBT is also ideal for patients who have struggled with thoughts of suicide and self-harm. DBT utilizes coping techniques, therapy, structure, and an interdisciplinary team of support to help individuals achieve sustained sobriety and ongoing psychological wellness.
